Cynthia Nixon has confirmed that she is running for Governor of New York. The former Sex and the City star made the announcement across her social media channels this morning.
“New York is my home,” she said in a campaign video. “New York is where I was raised and where I’m raising my kids. I’m a proud public school graduate and a proud public school parent.”

Nixon, who has lived in the city all her life, also confirmed that she hasn’t been “bought or paid for” and won’t be taking any corporate contributions towards the campaign. Instead, her campaign will be “powered by the people”. She launched a website allowing US residents to donate.
“Cynthia Nixon is a lifelong New Yorker and progressive activist who is running for governor to fight for a better, more equal New York,” the site reads.
