If this year’s news cycle has you questioning your sanity on a day-to-day basis, take solace in the fact that 2018 delivered the rom-com rebirth we’ve been waiting decades for. Crazy Rich Asians and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before jointly reminded me that love is real, while Set It Up, Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, and Love, Simonprovided just enough joy to counteract the devastation that comes with another White House press conference.
Blessedly, this trend is showing no signs of slowing down, as CRA star Henry Golding is joining forces with Game of Thrones juggernaut Emilia Clarke for the most important Christmas movie since Love Actually. The Hollywood Reporter reports Paul Feig, the mastermind director behind Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters, and A Simple Favor, will direct Golding and Clarke in Last Christmas, based on a script written by screen legend Emma Thompson (give her a cameo!) and playwright Bryony Kimmings.
Like all good holiday movies, Last Christmas is 1) set in London and 2) named after a Christmas song, so my expectations just knocked Ryan Gosling off the moon. While you wait, catch up on the best rom-coms of 2018 right here.
