Disney is developing a live-action musical remake of its 1937 animated film Snow White, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The revival will feature new original songs and the script is expected to “expand upon the story and music” of the classic.

Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train) is in negotiations to pen the screenplay, while Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (who wrote music for La La Land) are confirmed to compose new songs. Mac Platt, who is currently working on Disney’s Mary Poppins remake, is signed on as a producer.

Snow White—originally titled Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs—was Disney’s first animated film. Now, it joins the ranks of classics like Mulan (releasing winter 2018), Aladdin (which is getting a prequel) and Beauty and the Beast (releasing in March 2017), which are all getting the live-action treatment.

As the film’s creative team is still being assembled, there’s no word of actors signed on to the project yet; but if the casting is anything like Beauty and the Beast‘s—which stars Emma Watson as Belle—expect this production to be another spot-on remake. No release date has been announced so far, but rest assured our calendars will be marked immediately once it is.
