Zari Collection, A Hidden Treasure

Zari Collection transpired from the humble abode of Suku Gopal and Annabel Mackenzie, a warm and welcoming couple residing in an unforeseen haven of colour and character. From antiquary textiles to vintage home wares and traditional trinkets, spellbinding tales of the couple’s nomadic adventures leave us in an enchanted daze. Purely operating from home, Suku and Annabel occasionally host an open house sale and participate in vintage fairs across the country. Without an official website and just a Facebook page, the story of Zari Collection had to be told. Follow BAZAAR’s visual narration as we uncover treasures untold… just how many wonders can one tavern hold? Find out.

Suku Gopal personally shares with BAZAAR a collective of stunning imagery of his travels with wife, Annabel. The visuals fall nothing short of natural wonderment. Jaipur’s colourful, chaotic streets ebb and flow with a heady brew of old and new is reflected in the unedited and raw photographs lensed by Suku himself.

In the midst of the mayhem within Rajasthan’s capital, the splendours of Jaipur’s majestic past are islands of relative calm evoking a different pace and another world. A world that BAZAAR would soon experience through several visits to the house of Zari Collection. Marvel in a visual splendour of rich colour and history.

Extravagant in their very vibrancy, and exquisite in their inimitability, the land’s culture is the most poetic inspiration for a textile masterpiece each humming to the music of coloured passion.

Made by tribal women from villages around Shantiniketa, North of Kolkatta. These beautiful embroidered throws which spread opulently when unfolded spur imaginations with its colour, intensity and the very charisma of the magical country of India. Traditional preserved Kantha stitched throws with Suzani stitching of floral motifs adorn their home.

Textiles dress the walls of their home in Penang along with more inimitable and rare treasures from a maritime culture of India, a vintage hand painted Papadam carrier, antique clocks, cow belles preserved impeccably. Delicate in its brilliant design, each piece from the home of Suku and Annabel is an extraordinary miracle of craftsmanship and artistry. An old school charm surrounded the aura of their home that sat in a neighbourhood in Penang, left in all its former glory.
