Lucky George Clooney found the love of his life right in his own home. In a recent sit-down for David Letterman’s new Netflix show, the actor opens up about the funny way he first met his wife, human rights attorney, Amal Clooney.
“I didn’t leave the house, no,” he said.
“It was the wildest thing, a mutual friend of ours said, ‘I’m stopping by and can I bring a friend?’ And I was like, ‘Of course.’ And I got a call from my agent who called me and said, ‘I met this woman who’s coming to your house who you’re going to marry.'”

When Letterman joked that Clooney’s talent agent basically set up his marriage, the actor responded with a laugh. “It really worked out that way,” he said.
George’s parents were present for the meeting, too. “And the funniest thing was my mom and dad were visiting so my parents were there and we just talked and we stayed up all night talking,” Clooney added.
After that, he and Amal (then Alamuddin) exchanged email addresses to stay in contact. But George never thought it would amount to anything.
“I got her email address because she was gonna send me some pictures of my parents, and then we started writing,” Clooney said. “I didn’t know if she wanted to go out with me, I just thought we were buddies.”
That first encounter took place in July 2013, Clooney told The Hollywood Reporter last fall. “I thought she was beautiful, and I thought she was funny and obviously smart,” George said. But as the emailing and catching up progressed, “it became clear we were more than just friends.”
By February 2017, he knew she was the one and started planning the proposal. In April 2017, he asked Amal to marry him during an intimate candle-lit pasta dinner.
“And then over champagne, after dinner, I told her there was a lighter to light the candle in the drawer, and she reached back and pulled out a ring,” Clooney said. “And I did all the stuff, got down on my knee and did all the things you’re supposed to do.”

George and Amal tied the knot in September 2014, with a beautiful wedding in Venice. Three years later, the couple welcomed their first children, twins Ella and Alexander, in June 2017.
