Can you hear me?”—Like most meetings of 2021, the familiar phrase rings through the room as these were the first words I was greeted to when jumping onto a video call with Daiyan Trisha. Once the connection had stabilised, we opened to the topic that’s never too far away—COVID- 19. Checking in on each other’s mental and physical health, the state of our country and what we can do to motivate ourselves, our short introductions quickly spiralled to a comforting chat with a friend.

Not only is Daiyan a trailblazing force to be reckoned with, but she’s also a modern-day triple threat: actress, singer, content creator, and now adds volunteer to her long list of roles. What started off as a conversation with her sister, bloomed into her volunteering at a local vaccination centre—braver than most, she decided to commit a day of her week to lend her hand in the roll-out process.

“Since I had the time and energy, and also the fact that I live alone, I thought I was a good candidate as a volunteer because I knew I wasn’t putting anyone else at risk too,” she explains. Her volunteering initiative goes beyond just wanting to help her local PPV (vaccination administration) centre but also hoped her sharing her volunteering experience would motivate her followers to register and get vaccinated as soon as they could.

“Volunteering had such an uplifting effect on me. I had completely forgotten what it was like to be around people. Of course, I was worried at first, but it just felt really good. The energy transfer and the positive vibes of everyone wanting to get vaccinated were so lovely to experience. It honestly brought a ton of joy to me and truly helped me more on a personal level than anything else, because it really helped my mental health too,” she recalls.
