Gwyneth Paltrow On Losing Your Identity As You Age

Gwyneth Paltrow has spoken candidly about how the ageing process makes her feel like she’s losing her identity.

The Goop guru confessed on her The Beauty Closet podcast that she felt typecast during her young acting career, which led to her feeling that she’d lost her identity as she grew older.

The 46-year-old said: “I’ve been considered, not by everyone… It’s a weird thing to be, I don’t mean in a pejorative way objectified, but sort of cast as something put in a box.”

“And then I think when you come to age, if you have this broad identity as that, like, what does that mean?”

“To get wrinkles and get closer to menopause, and all these things… what happens to your identity as a woman if you’re not f**able and beautiful?’”

Paltrow then explained how learning to love yourself as you get older and embracing the process, is key for inner beauty.

“Luckily, what’s happening at the same time in parallel… is you just start to like yourself”, she said.

“I think you get to a point where it’s almost like your sort of pulchritude is waning in a way and your inner beauty is, like, really coming out, and so it’s this funny shift that’s happening.”

The actress recently revealed that she combats stress by practicing “conscious breathing” and short periods of meditation – which can be squeezed into even the busiest of schedules.
