The Oscars® is here! Have you ever wondered where the presenters hang out prior to taking the stage? Wonder no more as we take you into the exclusive interiors of the 2024 Oscars® Greenroom.
The 2024 Oscars® Greenroom is a haven for legends of cinema. It’s a convivial lounge where nominees and presenters gather before and after stepping onto the main stage. Each year, Rolex plays host to the Greenroom, presenting a new lavish decor with each edition of the annual Academy Awards. A decor that is not only emblematic of the Swiss watchmaker’s mark of luxury and excellence. But also reflective of its long-standing tie to the world of cinema.
ROLEX & CINEMA
It was in 2017 when Rolex officially became the Exclusive Watch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Simultaneously, becoming the Proud Sponsor of the Oscars® and Exclusive Sponsor of the Governors Awards. Additionally, Rolex is also a Founding Supporter and Official Watch of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
This partnership with the world of cinema echoes the very ethos of the brand. Rolex has always been an advocate for promoting excellence, as well as the perpetuation of knowledge, the conservation of the arts and the rise of new talent. These endeavours form the very core of the brand’s Perpetual Arts Initiative. For more than a half a century now, through the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, the brand has partnered some of the world’s most talented artists with leading cultural institutions—in music, architecture and cinema—to celebrate excellence and ensure the longevity of artistic heritage and knowledge for generations to come. Creating a link between the past, present and future, thus affirming the brand’s perpetual commitment to the preservation of the world’s cultural legacy.
LEGENDARY PARTNERSHIPS
Rolex watches has always been a fixture in the world of cinema, seen on the wrists of film legends on and off the camera. On Naomi Watts in While We’re Young (2014), Hellen Mirren in Solos (2021), and more recently on Zac Efron in The Iron Claw (2023) and Adrien Brody in Poker Face (2023).
Off camera, Rolex watches accompany directors and Testimonees Martin Scorsese and James Cameron, whose very works personify artistic and technical excellence in filmmaking. The Swiss watchmaker is also a partner of Scorsese’s The Film Foundation that supports the preservation and restoration of cinema, and counts the likes of Ang Lee, Christopher Nolan, George Lucas, Guillermo Del Toro, and Kathryn Bigelow among its board of directors.
THE 2024 OSCARS® GREENROOM
For the 96th Academy Awards, the 2024 Oscars® Greenroom hosted by Rolex shines the spotlight on the vegetal world. Where its green hue is as much a brand identity for the watchmaker as it is representative of a celebration of nature. Using the image of fans as inspiration, the decor integrates essential elements from nature—i.e. organic structures and chlorophyll—that also recall details found on a Rolex watch. Such as the fluting on its bezel and the brushed metal surfaces of its dial.
Materials that shape the space—namely fibres, ceramic, and glass—are all sustainably sourced, and express exceptional craftsmanship that echo the standards of Rolex’s watchmaking expertise.
Naturally, the Greenroom also showcases a display of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 in 18 ct Everose gold with a slate ombré dial and an iconic President bracelet. A true measure of prestige, the Day-Date has only ever been made from precious metals. Taking pride of place within the elegant décor of the 2024 Oscars® Greenroom, the stately presence of the Day-Date conveys the momentous significance of the Oscars® ceremony, and the role that Rolex continues to play in the development and preservation of cinema and its cultural impact on the world at large.
