With a signature tagline of “wherever you go, go with your heart” Hermione Olivia, an Australian digital influencer and style maker of many talents in the realm of arts has made her way to the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, also her favourite city in Asia, for a special collaboration with a powerhouse brand to be launched in October 2016.
Harper’s BAZAAR has taken the opportunity to invite our special guest @hermioneolivia for a whimsical day trip around the colourful vicinities of Petaling and beyond. A fashionable affair that embraces diversity and a medley of cultures to celebrate the 59th Anniversary of Malaysia’s independence. BAZAAR is treating you to a tantalising preview of snapshots hand selected by Hermione herself on her adventure with BAZAAR with a running commentary on her personal sentiments of the ‘Old Malaya’
A last minute surprise by none other than Malaysia’s crowning glory, Jonathan Liang bedazzled the morning with his latest Autumn/Winter 2017 collection fresh off the runways of KLFW 2016. Reimagined bombers and intricately embroidered floral pieces were some of the looks Shentel Lee had curated for Hermione.
The misadventures of unravelling Old Malaya began at the epicentre of Chinatown.
Favourite Outfit?
The very first outfit we shot, which came together just minutes before we set off to start shooting. Jonathan Liang floral embroidered dress, BowerhausxHermione necklace and Sereni & Shentel headband.
3 things you love about Chinatown?
melting pot of cultures, vintage charm, delicious street food
Dressed in D.D Collective Autumn/Winter 2017 and Sereni and Shentel China Street Collection, Hermione takes a sip of her first Teh Tarik…
Favourite moment of the day?
I can’t put into one moment as the whole day falls under my most passionate pursuit – seeing a city you think you know well from an entirely new and surprising perspective. An honour to shoot for my favourite magazine in one of my favourite cities with such an incredible team wearing such forward-thinking designers.
Favourite shoot locale?
Whirling around and shooting in the dust at the old photo store which is virtually untouched by the modern world, a time capsule into the romantic world of past times.. How lucky are we to be the last to shoot in a studio that has stood for 60 years!
In the eyes of Hermione Olivia, ‘Old Malaya’ is… loved, historic, interesting, other-worldly, exciting.
Stay tuned as we unveil the exclusive Merdeka campaign, ‘BAZAAR Welcomes Hermione Olivia to Old Malaya’ with details on the hidden treasures uncovered throughout our hunt for a pastime long forgotten.
