Your favourite Lexus NX SUV gets a make-over for the 2019 model and lets you continue cruising around the city in a safe manner. The updated Lexus NX 2019 Urban Luxury series is the epitome of the modern crossover SUV. While the interior of the NX combines a powerful SUV-like character with a sporty adventurous image, the safety features also get a massive upgrade that will help strike the right balance between the road and driver. So, what’s new?
Advanced Safety
The new NX now comes with the latest Lexus Safety System + (LSS+) which is the most comprehensive safety system ever offered in Lexus models. Using an integrated suite of advanced safety systems to help maintain safe distances from other vehicles on the road while simultaneously monitoring the spaces around the vehicle for potential collisions. Should there be such a risk, the driver will be alerted immediately, giving the opportunity to react and respond before a collision can occur.
Installed in all NX variants, LSS+ is designed to support driver awareness, decision-making and vehicle operation over a wide range of speeds under varied conditions. It helps address three key areas of accident protection: preventing or mitigating frontal collisions; keeping drivers within their lane and enhancing road safety during night driving.
Sticking In Your Lane
Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA), also integral with LSS+, help to keep the vehicle within its lane. Should it be detected that the vehicle is unintentionally moving out of its lane – typically due to loss of concentration by the driver – there will be an alert and steering assistance will also be initiated to bring the vehicle back to the centre of the lane.
Cruise Control
Many cars have cruise control nowadays, a feature that enables the vehicle to travel at a chosen speed without having to continuously press the accelerator pedal. With luxury models, cruise control systems have become more advanced and in the new NX, the LSS+ Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) system (with Stop & Go function) can vary the cruising speed when necessary to maintain a safe gap with vehicles ahead. This is done using the grille-mounted millimetre-wave radar and vehicle camera to monitor the road ahead. Should a sudden reduction in vehicle speed be necessary, the system may apply the brakes and activate them to a stop.
Other safety features available in the NX include Parking Support Alert which displays dynamic guidelines in the display as the vehicles are reversing while LED cornering lamps have been added for extra illumination when going around turns.
As for the rest of the safety kit list, the 2019 NX comes with eight airbags (including driver’s knee airbag and front passenger cushion airbag, the latter supports seatbelt restraint by lifting the front edge of the seat cushion) and a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines. However, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are only available on the Premium – the Urban and F Sport doesn’t get these.
Opting for the Premium over the Urban gets the convenience of a handsfree foot-activated rear hatch, smart card key, leather and wood interior trim (silver trim for Urban), electrochromic side and rear view mirrors and smooth leather (synthetic NuLuxe leather for Urban).
For the 2019 NX, customers have a choice of up to 7 exterior colours (depending on variant) – Blazing Carnelian, Amber CS, Sonic Titanium, Sonic Quartz, Graphite Black GF, Red MC CS and Sparkling Meteor ME. Additionally and exclusive for the NX300 F-Sport, customers also have a choice of Heat Blue CL or Lava Orange CS.
The new NX, to be available at all Lexus Centres in Malaysia from 22nd June 2019, is offered in three variants: the NX300 Premium, NX300 Urban as well as the NX300 F-Sport. The 2019 NX also comes with a comprehensive warranty five (5) years with unlimited mileage for your peace of mind.
