Zoë Kravitz has been confirmed for the role of Catwoman in the upcoming The Batman film.

The Big Little Lies star will play Selina Kylie and her alter-ego Catwoman, meaning that she’ll follow in the footsteps of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.

It was previously rumoured that other big names in Hollywood were considered for the part, including Luptia Nyong’o, Tessa Thompson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alexandra Shipp, Logan Browning and The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby.

Matt Reeves is directing the new rendition of Batman for Warner Bros, who is known for directing Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Reeves’ take on the character of Batman is thought to be a more grounded version, as he explained: “It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale.”

“It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that.”

“He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been.”

The Batman is set to release on 25 June 2021.
