Today, L’Oreal Paris announces the legendary Céline Dion as its newest global spokesperson.

The performing and recording artist, who the brand believes embodies their ‘Because I’m Worth It’ motto, will make her debut as the face of the Excellence Hair Color advertising to be released later this month.

This marks a new chapter in Dion’s career, as her long-standing Las Vegas residency comes to an end this June.

“I’m at a stage in my life where I’m excited to use my voice to empower others to feel beautiful, confident, and to learn to embrace themselves,” Dion says of the news.

“I never saw that coming, especially at 51 years old,” she adds, explaining how the decision to work with the beauty giants was carefully considered.

“I thought seriously about it because, if my name was on it, I wanted to truly believe in it. We, women, are all dealing with a society that is pushing so much today. Considering that L’Oréal Paris gives women plenty of tools to feel good, to feel strong, to have a voice, to fulfil themselves and to feel worth it, I was honoured to become a global ambassador for the brand and represent women all around the world.”

Below, Dion discusses her approach to beauty, ageing, and reinvention.

“I feel empowered when I look at my life and my career. I used to be an artist who needed to prove things to the industry and I have worked very hard my whole life. But now that I am doing it for myself and with passion, it gives me so much inner confidence.”

On embracing ageing…

“I feel so good now that I don’t even want to think about my 20s or 30s, when I was still discovering myself. For the last couple of years, I have grown in a very strong and happy way through my passions, my work, friendship, motherhood. I am now embracing myself and feel free to do what I want, where I want, when I want. I am thankful to keep going, I’ve never felt so beautiful and strong, and I feel that the best is yet to come. Today is the beginning of the rest of my life and I don’t want to go back in time; I am going forward.”

On reinvention…

“I still daydream, and I love it. But since I’m so busy with my passions, my work, my family, I have no time. My secret? When I’m in my bed, I take some time for myself to think of everything I love and this is the time I get so creative.”

On finding strength…

“Losing my husband, seeing him suffer was extremely hard. But I have learnt to love him like there is no tomorrow. I knew that I had to let him go in peace, and not be selfish trying to make him stay a little longer. I now see him in the eyes of my kids, and that makes me stronger. It helped me to keep going and to go back on stage. So I continue to work hard, I have found new passions such as dance and, made new friends and I’m very well surrounded.”

On doing her own show make-up…

“I love doing my make-up, I love to play. I always start my beauty routine making sure my face is clean and well prepared. That is very important. Then I like to put a light concealer under the eyes to open up my gaze, a little bit of powder to fix it and a touch of a brow pencil to balance my face.”

On celebrating fashion…

“Fashion excites me, it allows me to express myself and to be creative in a way that’s different from music. From one outfit to another, I can change my style, my persona every day. I love to play with fashion and I love to take risks. I have the strong belief that you can never go too big.”

“To me, ‘Because I’m Worth It’ means so much. I really see L’Oréal Paris beyond beauty products, beyond colours, beyond care. Because when you do your hair or put your make-up on, you’re feeling your best. You feel confident, whatever your achievement is. You feel feminine and empowered, expressing your inner strength. You feel inspired and emotionally supported when realising your dreams. All of this means we are worth it. We need to give ourselves the credit we deserve. This is why “Because I’m Worth It” is such a powerful tagline that I feel connected to.”

On the message she hopes to share as a L’Oréal Paris spokeswoman…

“I want everyone to feel that they have the right to express themselves, whether it is through fashion and beauty, by using their voice or through something else that’s important to them. The world is changing, and L’Oréal Paris is part of that in a positive way since the brand is telling women that there is nothing wrong in realising their dreams and speaking their mind. As a society, I think we need to embrace that even further. I hope that I can elevate this conversation. I feel that at this stage in my life, I now have a voice. I truly admire what L’Oréal Paris stands for and I’m excited to use my voice to empower everyone to feel beautiful, confident and to learn to embrace themselves.”
