Unexpected Address
When the invitation to the YSL Beauty Block Party arrived, it was not the event itself that caught our attention, but rather the address. A kopitiam in Bukit Bintang was not exactly where you would expect one of beauty’s most recognisable houses to stage a party. If anything, it made us more curious. How would the brand fuse the gritty, high-gloss energy it is known for with something as rooted and familiar as a neighbourhood mamak?

YSL Beauty brought its iconic Block Party concept to Capitol Cafe in Bukit Bintang, creating a unique fusion of Malaysian culture and beauty.
Pulling up to Capitol Cafe answered that almost immediately. The bold signage advertising nasi lemak, chicken rice and cendol sat in contrast with the pulsing lights of the YSL set-up and the bass heavy music that was spilling out onto the street. It felt slightly surreal in the best way.
The one-night takeover marked the Kuala Lumpur edition of YSL Beauty’s globally recognised Block Party series, a concept revolving around transforming unconventional urban spaces into immersive beauty and nightlife destinations. The juxtaposition was compelling. Rather than overshadowing the venue’s character, the transformation celebrated it, elevating everyday Malaysian touchpoints through the brand’s own codes of beauty and self-expression.

Familiar faces filled the space, including Malaysian brand ambassador Meerqeen, alongside names like Azira Shafinaz, Angel Chai, Alicia Amin, Nia Atasha, Jane Lau, Jestinna Kuan and more.
The energy was sustained by a rotating line-up of DJs including Jovynn, Athina Kamarudin, Roshan Menon, Maya Letisha and Joee, whose sets carried the crowd through the night and reinforced the event’s after-hours spirit.

On the menu were kopitiam staples like roti bakar and teh ais, but the real highlight came in the form of the new Lovenude collection. Designed to create softly blurred definition, the collection embraces a more understated approach to lip colour and the idea of a nude lip.
Leading the launch is the Lovenude Lip Blusher, a balm-meets-lip-colour hybrid that delivers a diffused matt finish while maintaining lasting hydration. Alongside it, the Lovenude Kiss Shaper offers subtle structure and definition through a creamy, seamless texture that glides across the lips. Available in a range of versatile nude tones, the liner can be worn alone or paired with the Lip Blusher to create dimension, softness and a fuller-looking finish.
Few brands could transform a bustling kopitiam into one of the city’s most desirable addresses without losing the essence of either. Yet for one evening, Capitol Cafe became a meeting point of local familiarity that met YSL Beauty’s signature edge.
