My Architectural Icon…

“As a child, I was intrigued by drawing, models, and craft-making, so diving head first into the world of architecture was easy. During my 11 years in this male-dominated profession, I found solace in the visionary Zaha Hadid, who worked towards changing gender dynamics and creating a design language unlike any other. For the first 20 years of her career, she was known as the ‘architect that never builds’, and had criticism thrown her way, but she held on. Zaha’s most incredible project, for me, is the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, which defies the typically rigid Soviet architecture to present a contemporary work of luminous curves and futuristic arcs. Her work is the legacy that she left behind, and as I go deeper, I feel the courage to achieve my wildest dreams.”
