Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-Eda’s movie ‘Monster’ received a humble yet deserving six-minute standing ovation at the premiere earlier today. Back in 2018, he won the Palme d’Or for his movie ‘Shoplifters’, and it will be no surprise to see this movie bag another award this year. Additionally, this also marks his ninth movie premiere debut in the competition.
The filmmaker expressed, “Thank you. Some people couldn’t be here. Can’t wait to go back to Japan and show them the film…tell them about this absolutely wonderful premiere. It will stay in my heart.”

At the Cannes Film Festival 2023, Cartier’s latest Global Ambassador, Elle Fanning, wowed the audience with two outstanding outfits. She first appeared in a blue Khaite dress with a captivating choker neckline, showcasing Cartier jewels while standing at a balcony window. For her second appearance on the red carpet, she wore a gorgeous orchid-coloured Alexander McQueen dress with a crystal-embroidered bodice, complemented by Cartier accessories, of course.
Johnny Depp receives a 7-minute standing ovation for ‘Jeanne Du Barry’
Johnny Depp made his first on-screen appearance since his high-profile defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard. When director Thierry Fremaux was chosen to open the festival this year, it became the talk of the town. However, after its premiere at the festival, the crowd gave Depp and the movie a seven-minute standing ovation. Depp, who considered this film his “comeback”, was seen emotional and shedding tears during the moment.
