Whether you’re a seasoned collector, neophyte or cognoscente, inheriting or purchasing a Cartier piece should be at the top of your list of priorities. With a loyal global following, the French Maison has always been known for crafting perfect silhouettes that have led them to create some of the most iconic and recognisable designs in the world such as the Love bracelet, the Tank watch, and their high jewellery collection, Grain de Café.
In the past high jewellery was predominantly about wealth, power, and social status, however today, it has evolved into precious objects of art and stylish heirlooms you can wear and pass down for generations. With that in mind, Cartier decided to revolutionise their Grain de Café collection; adding an extra aura of glamour and sophistication in the public’s eye.
All you need to know about the Cartier Grain de Café collection:
The Grain de Café collection was first launched in 1938 by legendary Creative Director, Jeanne Toussaint. It became an icon of jewellery in the 1950s when it was flaunted by the newly-crowned Princess Grace of Monaco.
Inspired by coffee beans, the Grain de Café collection is adorned with elegance, glamour, and sophistication. The beautiful collection features yellow gold creations that emphasise the allure of the French Riviera in the 1950s.
“Grain de Café creates a new preciousness by playing with light, finishes, and volumes. The result is a versatile collection with added spirit. A symbol of the creative freedom of the Maison, Grain de Café transcends a literal translation of nature and results in a multi-sensory design,” said Marie-Laure Cérède, Creative Director of Jewellery and Watchmaking.
The iconic pieces in the Grain de Café collection – rings, pendants, earrings, and brooches – have sensual curves complemented with glittering diamonds. These creations were made to enhance your skin like summer heat.
Notable pieces in the collection include a half-flower and half-fruit ring and bracelet adorned with rubellite beads and diamonds. Other than that, the collection also sees stunning creations such as a necklace made up of two rows of gold beads topped with coffee beans and gold-studded rubellites. This year Cartier also pulled all the stops in reissuing a necklace originally dating back to the 1950s – to pay homage to the legacy of Grain de Café and Jeanne Toussaint’s influence.
