Bridgerton Season 2 returns with new additions to the cast, and next to nothing-sex scenes.
This season is vastly different from Bridgerton Season 1, where anxiety was at a high with moments of love, anger, and sadness rolled all into one. We all binge-watched Simon, Duke of Hastings (Rege Jean) and Daphne Bridgerton’s (Phoebe Dynevor) bittersweet love unravel. It was truly magical, and intense, keeping us on our toes. Visions from episode 6 are still intact.
Season two brings a new storyline altogether and highlights Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) pursuit in search of the perfect bride. He is more concerned about finding a lady who will be able to fulfil her duties as a wife, as opposed to love. As Lady Whistledown, continues to highlight the secrets and gossip about town. Her Majesty Queen Charlotte, played by Golda Rosheuvel takes it upon herself to host her Diamond’s marriage this season.

As young ladies make their debut this season, we discover two new ladies returning from India. Their mother Mary Sharma (Shelley Conn) fled to India years ago to elope with her husband. Leaving her bitter, angry and disappointed parents back home. The whole town is surprised by her return, together with her two daughters Ediwna (Charithra Chandran) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
Executive Producer Shonda Rhimes, once again impresses by adding diversity into her cast, but also highlighting a time when Britain colonised India. We also see hints of Indian culture during a pre-marriage ceremony where sisters Edwina and Kate Sharma enjoyed a spa session using a Tumeric scrub. The sisters smeared a tumeric scrub on their faces and arms.
The ritual, called a Haldi ceremony (Haldi means turmeric in Hindi), is a traditional Indian pre-wedding event, believed to bestow blessings upon married couples. Indian viewers might also catch that the string music playing in the background of the scene is an orchestral cover of “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,” a wildly popular Bollywood song from the 2001 film of the same name.
All eight episodes are full of action, emotion and gossip, even at the very last minute we are unsure if there will actually be a wedding this season. If you’re tuning in for the hot sex scenes that took our breath away last season. You’ll be disappointed that there is almost no sex in season 2, except for one very unexpected scene in episode 7.
This Season is about loyalty, commitment, sibling love and responsibility. An everlasting love, that surrounds your family, and the sacrifices one makes for their loved ones. Bridgerton has been confirmed for Season 3, and we can’t wait to find out what’s in store next season.
Bridgerton Season 2 premiered on Netflix on the 25th of March 2022.
