Have Your Home Smelling Like Celine With Its New Illuminations Candle

Celine Haute Parfumerie expands its olfactory offerings this season with its new perfumed candle, Illuminations. Because why just smell like Celine when you can have the entire home imbued in one of the Maison’s signature scents?

Celine Illuminations candle

The new Illuminations candle joins the ranks of other Celine perfumed candles launched in 2021. Thus, it unfolds as the next chapter in an olfactory saga that began with the first six Celine candle creations. Namely L’inventaire, Palimpseste, Papiers Froissés, Grands Lys, Tambour Noir and, this writer’s personal favourite, Nightclubbing.

The inspiration for Illuminations stems from creative director Hedi Slimane’s personal olfactory journal. In particular, a journey into his heydays in California—the decadent parties, the rock ’n roll soundtrack, the burning resin.

A Tribute To Incense

Celine Illuminations candle

So Illuminations is composed as a a tribute to incense—Slimane’s personal favourite ingredient—made sleek yet deep, edged with warm almost velvety balms. Depth comes by way of two extracts of incense, one explosive, the other warmer, smokey and resinous. Further fused with white birch and two absolutes of cistus labdanum lightly powdered with a touch of musk. Much like with Celine’s previous scents, the resulting composition creates a powdery-velvety effect. It’s emblematic of a comforting and timeless elegance.

Exceptional Savoir-faire

Similar to its approach to fashion, the Celine Haute Parfumerie candle honours the tradition of French craftsmanship. Borne from a savoir-faire that mixes craft and technique, experience and an olfactory sensibility. Unlike most wax-makers in France, craftsmen chosen by Celine also undergo training as a perfumer.

Slimane also has a hand in designing the candle holder. The candle holder takes inspiration from the design of an 18th century faceted silver goblet, utilising the tradition of French glassmaking. Additionally, its silhouette recaptures the lines of the Celine perfume bottle.

The candlewax here is also made black, echoing its glass holder. Then for its packaging, the box and label are adorned in paper with a “grain de poudre” feel, then embossed with the recreation of 17th century moulding, influenced by the wood panelling in the Hôtel Colbert de Torcy, the very home of the Celine couture house at 16, rue Vivienne in Paris. As a final touch, the top of the box is embossed with the Maison’s “triomphe” emblem.

Celine also offers candle accessories decorated with the Maison’s codes to complement its candle collection. Available in polished silver or gold also leather, these include candle snuffers, wick trimmers, metal covers, candle trays and boxes.
