Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up
Showing until November 4 at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK.
A courageous woman, a passionate lover, and an empowering woman of the 20th century, Frida Kahlo was an artist who wasn’t afraid to use her tragic experiences and emotional pain as a symbolic, powerful tool of art. ‘Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up’ delves into Kahlo’s distinctive taste in fashion and compelling life story, through a treasure trove of colourful Tehuana garments, hand-painted prosthetics, and a self-curated make-up selection that includes her signature Revlon ebony eyebrow pencil. Kahlo’s home – Casa Azul aka Blue House – where she was born, lived, and died is also reimagined here, offers an insight into her troubled marriage with muralist Diego Rivera, along with an insight into her orthopaedic-aided life after a near-fatal accident when she was 18.
