Shepard Fairey’s Hope poster of former US president Barack Obama during his campaign

Current status… American contemporary graphic artist, muralist and social activist has not been idle in making his voice heard.

Hall of fame… Fairey’s ubiquitous Hope campaign posters in 2008 for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama in the American flag colours of red, white and blue, captured the pure optimism of that momentous time. The multi-disciplinary has since created a poster series in 2017,  inspired by women of diverse cultures in the same colourways, titled ‘We The People’, as a response to US president Donald Trump’s racist remarks Fairey has found the impetus to have his voice heard through his art.

Addressing issues… His seminal exhibition, ‘Damaged’ in the same year looks at the approach towards the environment, sexism, political system and social media communication. Ambitious and a much-needed force in this age, one of his artworks, Golden Future for Some, is a visual battle of the restriction of immigrants happening in the US.
