What’s next on the menu?
Located in SS15, Asumo is the place to be if you’re on the hunt for an authentic yakiniku restaurant. Helmed by Kota Furuya, Asumo is the sister restaurant of Desa Sri Hartamas’ Kyomo KL. Ideal for all, the restaurant is halal-certified, serving delicious wagyu from Miyazaki and Tokushima prefectures in Japan.
As we walked into the restaurant, the aroma of delicious food immediately hit us. The warm lighting and cosy ambience made us feel welcome in an instant. Just like stepping into a yakiniku restaurant in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi district, the establishment embraces the authentic yakiniku vibe from the curated menu to the plates and the state-of-the-art exhaust system from Japan.
The hostess greeted us with a smile as we entered and led us to our table. On the menu, you’ll find divine ala-carte dishes and worthwhile lunch set menus, depending on what time you decide to pop by. Their highlights include the signature Asumo Wagyu Omakase Platter, which includes 10 various bite-sized cuts. You can pick between the 600g (RM570), 800g (RM760) and 1,000g (RM950).
Here’s what we had at Asumo:
Our afternoon at Asumo involves ordering the signatures to accompany our feast: The Kale Salad, Garlic Rice and the 5 Kind Assorted Kimuchi.
We then enjoyed a hearty yet appetising lunch by ordering the Japanese Wagyu Set. If you want a cheeky wagyu meal in the afternoon, this is the best option without feeling overstuffed.
Take note that you can pick between the Australia Beef Set, Australia Beef Set + Japanese Wagyu Set and the Japanese Wagyu Set. Apart from meats, your friends can enjoy other set meals like the Tempura + Fish, Prawn Tempura, Salmon Sashimi, Beef Udon & Tempura, Grilled Salmon, Grilled Saba Fish, and a Vegetable Tempura set too.
When you order their sets, you will receive a bowl of fragrant white rice, cold noodles, potato salad, miso soup and a glass of hot or iced green tea to accompany the star of the show: the Japanese wagyu.
You will receive five slices of the finest cuts to grill and savour. At each table, you can prepare and cook your meat to your liking on the grill. Depending on your palate, go ahead and dip the meat into its unique sauces or enjoy the full-bodied flavours on its own. In our opinion, we prefer to indulge in the goodness of the meats with a little salt.
The sizzling sound of the meat on the grill and the delicious smell of the savoury marinade filled the air as we sat around the table. When the food was ready, we savoured each bite of the wagyu while tasting its exquisite umami flavour. Trust us; it was a melt-in-your-mouth type of experience.
Once the meal was over, it was time to order desserts. On our list is their signature Sweet Potato Spring Roll with Ice Cream and the Matcha Tiramisu.
For a sweet end to your meal, the Matcha Tiramisu tugged our hearts with its rich mascarpone cheese laced in between the sweet red bean paste with every heavenly bite. The sweet potato spring roll was a delightful addition to our meal, especially when paired with the ice cream. Although it was an unexpected combination, we grew to love it by the end of our dining experience.
Don’t miss out on your chance to experience the best of the best at Asumo.
