It’s Official: A Clueless Remake Is In The Works

Cult nineties film Clueless is set to undergo the Generation Z treatment, as Paramount Pictures is reportedly plotting a remake.

According to Deadline, the upcoming reboot will be produced by Girls Trip co-writer Tracey Oliver while Marquita Robinson – best known for her work on Netflix series Glow – will take on the script.

Oliver confirmed the news yesterday via Twitter, as she took to the social media platform to write: “Crazy excited to be producing a new take on one of my favourite movies of all time, Clueless, with the hilarious and super talented @MarqRobinson writing it!!! As. If.”

Loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma, the coming-of-age film cemented its status in pop culture history courtesy of its unmistakable fashion moments (yes, that plaid co-ord) and quote-worthy scenes.

Unsurprisingly, the 1995 flick was an instant success scoring $56 million at the US box office and catapulting a young Paul Rudd and Alicia Silverstone to the silver screen.

Fast-forward 23 years and the teen comedy continues to inspire with an off-broadway musical set to kick-start in November.

It has yet to be revealed whether or not the remake will feature any of the same cast members or if Cher Horowitz will swap her chunky mobile for a slick iPhone.

Nevertheless, a large number of nineties kids are less than impressed with many taking to Twitter to criticise the proposed reboot.

One wrote, “How Clueless do you have to be to make a Clueless remake?”

While another joked: “The one good thing about the Clueless remake is that they can cast Paul Rudd in the same role.”
