Hollywood may still be rewarding 2018’s best cinema, but up in Park City, Utah, they’re already looking ahead. This week marks the launch of the annual Sundance Film Festival, and with it, a whole new slate of independent films. Here, we round up the most hotly anticipated releases.
Closing the festival is Troop Zero, a drama from the female writing-directing duo Bert and Bertie that centres around a misfit girl dreaming of becoming an astronaut. Her prayers are answered when Nasa opens a competition whose winner will be recorded on its Golden Record (a time capsule aiming to explain life on Earth to extraterrestrials). Since the Oscar-winning scene stealers Viola Davis and Allison Janney are onboard, Troop Zero is surely headed to infinity and beyond.
