Here’s everything we know about ‘Every Year After’:

What is it about?

Based on the book “Every Summer After” by Carley Fortune, the series will circle the plot of nostalgic, second-chance romance. Told over six years and one pivotal weekend timeline, the series sees Persephone Fraser going back to Barry’s Bay after a phone call changes everything, and reuniting with Sam Florek—the person she’d convinced herself she could survive losing.

Their story had been written across six golden summers: lazy days drifting on the water, nights thick with heat as they worked side by side in his family’s restaurant, stolen hours reading together—his future mapped out in medical journals, hers scrawled into horror fiction drafts. What began as an inseparable friendship combusted into something fierce and consuming, until it all came crashing down.

Returning for Sam’s mother’s funeral, Percy discovers that a decade hasn’t dimmed what pulses between them. But the weight of her past decisions and the years she’s spent carrying that guilt stands between them like a wall. Only by facing what she’s done—and forgiving herself for it—can they discover if love can be larger than the wreckage they left behind.

This is an achingly romantic exploration of how the people we love and the choices we make become permanent parts of who we are.

Is there a trailer?

Yes, there is, and it looks phenomenal. If you caught it, there’s even a line from the book—“You came home”, and a rephrased version of “Some people are lucky like that. They meet their best friend, the love of their life, and are wise enough to never let go.” To make it even better, you can even spot the infamous yellow boat.

What scenes from the book will be on-screens?

From the trailer, we can see the “You came home” scenes makes it on screen—so, we’re hopeful there are more to come. For the other scenes lifted directly from Fortune’s pages—the ones book fans have been hoping would make the cut—Matt Cornett promises they’re there, handled with care and shot as faithfully as possible. “Those scenes were so fun,” he said, “and Sadie and I had so much fun shooting them because we are so ridiculously goofy with each other.”

Who should watch this show?

We’d recommend this show for anyone who loves a childhood-to-lovers, second chance romance and summer nostalgia.

What other Carley Fortune books are coming to the screen?

Every Summer After won’t be Fortune’s sole book-to-screen project. Her 2023 release, Meet Me at the Lake, is in development as a feature film through Archewell Productions—the company founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. On the other hand, Fortune’s book, This Summer Will Be Different, got picked up by Netflix, so we can anticipate this in the future soon, since filming will commence in the summer.

With One Golden Summer being released this year and the TV adaptation expanding beyond the original book’s title to allow for a broader narrative scope, there’s room for speculation about what might come next. Could we eventually see Charlie’s brother’s story—the companion novel, adapted as well? It’s purely hopeful thinking at this point, but given how Fortune’s romances are resonating with producers, we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
