First Impressions: A Cursory Look At The Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G

We Got Our Hands On The Latest Flagship Device From Samsung, And Here Are Our First Thoughts.

Let’s be real: in this day and age, we can’t live without our phones. It’s more than just a means to communicate or stay in touch. For the very least, it’s our phone and address book, our calendar, our notebook, our mini computer, our map and navigation system, our entertainment centre, and, of course, our digital camera and photo albums. Even before working from home became a quarantine culture, the smart phone is everybody’s trusted companion. The one thing that keeps us connected to our family and friends, and the world at large.

The new Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ from Samsung is created with that in mind. A device designed for the way we live now, to enable us to make the most of every moment while empowering self-expression. How so? Mainly, through state-of-the-art camera and video features, a bold new design and streamlined connectivity capabilities. And BAZAAR is lucky enough to get our hands on the brand new Galaxy S21+ to see for ourselves how this little kitty purrs.

As far as first impressions go, the Galaxy S21+ 5G looks and feels sleek. Naturally, we have to mention the obvious: the colour. The Galaxy S21 range offers a new signature colour for Samsung i.e. Phantom Violet, a metallic lavender with a luxurious haze finish that feels really smooth to the touch—we love it!

The colour exudes an almost regal glamour, made all the more chic by the rose gold-hue of the metallic frame surrounding the edges of the phone, seamlessly integrated with the housing for the rear camera lens. With regards to how the phone feels in the hand, the narrow 75.6 mm width and 7.8 mm thickness makes for a comfortable grip (and weighing in at a light 200 g helps too).

Design-wise, the most striking feature here is the all-new Contour Cut Camera housing, in the aforementioned rose gold-hue for added glitz. For those more used to an ultra flat form, the fact that the rear camera protrudes a tad from the body of the phone is a minor concern, seeing as we will most likely encase the device in a phone case anyway for extra protection.

Samsung S21+ 5G comes in Phantom Black, Phantom Violet or Phantom Silver

The Galaxy S21+ 5G is packed in an elegant black box emblazoned with a capital S brushed in the colour of the model. This package contains the phone, ejection pin, Quick Start guide, and a USB-C type cable. However, there are no earphones and charger plugs. It’s a sustainability move, seeing as Samsung customers are known to reuse their existing earphones and chargers anyway. Which is all well and good if you’re already a Galaxy user. For first-time users (like this reviewer), that just means we have a few more accessories to buy to complete the set.

But the real question is, does the Galaxy S21+ 5G deliver on its promises? Check out our full review here.
