With a keen eye for detail, it isn’t surprising that Kay Tuan is high in demand with some of Malaysia’s most prominent fashion designers such as Brian Khoo and Khoon Hooi. After nearly two decades in the business, Kay maintains a humble outlook on his illustrious career highlights. “There’s no favourite one look, shoot, or show I’ve done,” he says. “They’re all special and satisfying in their own way. Whether it’s helping someone feel good about their hair or putting together more out-there high fashion looks for a photo shoot, I do it all with pride. There’s just something about the creation process that is so exciting.”

Easy-going and always up for a laugh, Tuan’s affable nature has earned him a reputation as a stylist for international stars, with a list of clients including Hong Kong starlets G.E.M. and Natalie Tong. Starting as a shampoo boy in a small-town salon and working his way up to stylist extraordinaire with Centro W Salon has put Kay in the unique position of constantly reinventing and challenging himself. Pushing the boundaries of skill and creativity, he has made an impact on fashion, media, and culture with his coiffed creations that speak volumes of his talents.

Beyond his intuitive spirit, Kay’s constant exploration is what truly sets him apart. “I love to try new things and I always believe in not holding back, because it’s only when you try that you discover how far you can go.” His sense of adventure and exploration is one that he has an uncanny ability to impart onto his clients as well.
