#1. Downplay your morning routine. “So, okay, you’re probably going, ‘Is this like, a Noxzema commercial or what?’ But I actually have a way normal life for a teenage girl,” says Cher as the film opens. “I brush my teeth and I pick out my school clothes.” She also meticulously brushes her hair, powders her face and uses a computer program to sort through her massive wardrobe, but that’s neither here nor there.

#2. Lipliner is a must. Before Kylie Jenner, there was Cher, who was never caught putting on lipstick without first outlining her lips in pencil a shade darker. Because, as she said, “anything you can do to draw attention to your mouth is good.”

#3. Think twice about lipo. If Cher’s mom can die during a routine liposuction procedure in Beverly Hills with the best doctor, no one is safe.

#4. Switch to contact lenses. The first step in Cher’s makeover of Miss Geist? Remove the glasses. And voila!—just like that, she’s a Betty. Flash forward four years to She’s All That for further proof that glasses = toe-up.

#5. Get your nose done before college. The girls at Cher’s Beverly Hills high school wear their casts proudly and make the case for not hiding your nose job.

#6. Maximize your gym time. “Standing in line for 45 minutes is hardly aerobically effective,” complains Cher to her P.E. coach. “I doubt I worked off the calories in a stick of Carefree gum.” Instead, try her favorite workout video: Buns of Steel.

#7. Nothing beats an at-home massage after a stressful night. After being held up at gunpoint, it’s only natural to call up your masseuse to relieve the tension in your back the next day.

#8. Have a friend on-hand to help with pre-date beauty prep. Dionne steps up to the plate when Cher is stressing over her date with Christian, showing up to fix her inflamed skin with lots and lots of mattifying powder.

#9. Flat hair is the enemy. When Christian ignores Cher’s advances, she blames it on her own flat hair and bad lighting—not the fact that he’s gay. Nevertheless, avoid limp strands by flipping your head upside down, brushing all your hair forward, then flipping it back again.

#10. It’s what’s on the inside that counts. “I decided I needed a complete makeover, but this time I’d make over my soul,” declares Cher towards the end of the film. And it works: She finds fulfillment in volunteering and lands the smart, nice guy.

Jenner also let us in on another fashion fun fact about Cher’s famous Calvin Klein dress. Apparently, the LWD became so widely popular and sought after in the decade following the film’s release that the brand reissued the style in 2010. We think it’s about time for a second revival, don’t you?
