Rixo founders Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey

Henrietta Rix: “As designers and lovers of all things art, Orlagh and I have always been big advocates of using creativity, especially art, as an outlet to boost positivity and brighten moods. Now more than ever, this matters the most. We love nothing more than coming together to draw and paint different elements and then pulling them all together to create a specific print story. For anyone who wants a creative outlet at this time, I’d say get out your paints, pencils and sketch books – it will allow you to focus on something positive, clear your mind and create something new. Even if you think you’re not naturally creative or haven’t tried before, have some fun learning! Just give it a go – there’s no right or wrong way.”

Orlagh McCloskey: “Set up your workspace somewhere comfortable and light. Find a source of inspiration from your home – whether that’s a piece of furniture, a view from your window, the clothes in your wardrobe or in the books on your coffee table or shelves. From this you could just draw or paint what you see or even combine different sources of inspiration extracting elements of shapes, patterns, colour tones or textures to form a new print or abstract image. It can be from the smallest part of your object of inspiration and can include as many or as little of the colours as you want. It is amazing what you can take from your surroundings and put together to create something. Henrietta and I often find the beginnings of our aesthetics in the most obscure items. But when you start draw it and expand the pattern, it can become something really beautiful.”
